Live from Regent's park
I am back after a tidy break.
Lof of water has flown by in the last 1 month. I can only claim to have thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the freshness that is London. LBS is situated right opposite to Regent's park. There is greenery as far as your eye can set its sight. The climate is a little moody but that adds to the London life. Most of my expectations are well met, I should admit. As it is I am quite impresionable but even the not so easy to please fellas were floored by what London Business School had to offer.
First the Campus, albeit not big but clean and beautiful. I love the lawn opposite the school and the view to the duck Pond from the school. The profs were worth all the hype that I had created with in me. The quality of class discussion I guess is a few notches above what we had seen at HKU. The diversity is in the air. Wont harp on it too much but to make a case in point. My team consists of a German, Mexican, Russian and Filipino. By the way I am the only male in the team. The fact I love about the classes here is that the Profs get some of the best speakers to the campus. It is simply amazing when you discuss a case for over 3 hours and the protaganist of the case walks out non challantly. All the while he was hearing all the crap we were talking. Its like discussing a case on Tata buying Corus and wham, Ratan Tata walking out and telling us what he went throught with the deal. Its absolutely exciting. I have read books of some of the profs at LBS and its superb to see some of them in skin and flesh.
The Indian Conflict
Indians are undoubtedly the biggest contigent in the LBS Campus. Indian club is supposedly the most active club in the campus and holds lot of events, parties. Interstingly a lot of indians are here are Indian Origin or Indians who migrated to the west long time ago. So we generally have to ask if he is an Indian Indian to confirm the degree of Indianess. I always have this conflict about expat Indians and their Indianess. Some of them play a very active role in the events and yet have hardly been to India or have any association now but I guess the culture must be quite ubiquitious and hence the easy association.
The LBS Family
Another spectacular sight is the student families. Mst of the studets are married and some have kids. The wives sit in the lawn and wait for their hubbies to get out of the class while the children play in the garden. Many students bring their kids to the student parties.
As for me, I try to make the best out of the opportunity. I try to attnd every talk, class, party.
The Prospect of being unemployed is looming at large. I have made many a futile attempts. The confidence is kinda faltering. I only hope I dont hit the abyss this soon. God willing
I will try to write more frequently. Since I am moving from an interactive to a monologue platform there is not much motivation but will try to engae you as much as possible :)
Thanks
Arun
